Book and movie both riveting and powerful

catching fire

The Hunger Games book series, written by Suzanne Collins, is a set of three installments: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The series itself is following the rise and fall of an empire to the hands of "good guy/girl" Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is just like any other teenage girl - loves to be outdoors and spend time with her friends. What she did not realize was that soon she would become an iconic symbol to the people of Panam, the country in which the stories are based.

Collins successfully helped to turn the first two sections of the series, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire into extremely amazing movies. Francis Lawrence, director of "Catching Fire" (the movie) did a wonderful job of further creating the world of Panam with the twists that were necessary for the storyline to stay true to the literature it sprang from.

Katniss Everdeen was once again played by Jennifer Lawrence with Josh Hutcherson by her side as one of her love interests, Peeta Mellark. Liam Hemsworth also joined the cast for a second go around as Gale, Katniss' true but forbidden love. The things that were created from the mind of Suzanne Collins were truly remarkable, bringing to life the pain and devastation of Katniss and Peeta returning to the games for a second chance to return to their home district as champions. From the opening title sequence, to the ending credits, "Catching Fire" is riveting and powerful. I highly recommend it!

Several Lubbock Christian University students were seen camping out to enjoy the premiere, and when asked if they enjoyed the "Catching Fire" experience, Amber Wilson replied, "Yes! The movie was so so great and I loved every minute of it! I am a little tired from all of the stressful parts though."
