Where to Eat: Torchy's Tacos

The address 2407 9th St., off of University, is home to a new restaurant, Torchy's Tacos, a new chain restaurant from Austin.
This hot, new, exciting place has an atmosphere that makes you feel as though you went away from Lubbock on vacation. The servers and employees are friendly and extremely helpful. There is an option for outdoor seating, as wells as higher tables and a bar area. The restaurant is clean and roomy.
Like the name of the restaurant implies, the main dish is tacos, but there is still great variety on the menu. You are able to choose what tortilla (corn or flour) and what sauce (roja, tomatillo, poblano, chipotle, avocado, or Diablo) you would like on your taco. The sides are the typical Mexican food side dishes – guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo, rice, and refried (pinto or black) beans. There are also chips and dips that are quite tasty.
To finish the meal there are sweets that make your mouth water just hearing the description: Love Puppies, dark chocolate brownies, and Lil' Nookies, deep fried chocolate chip cookies.
They also have fountain drinks that are not your typical Coca-Cola products. There are sodas like Doppleganger, Vanilla Creme, Rootbeer, and other hand-made root sodas that could only come from Austin, TX.
They also serve breakfast.
What I truly loved about this place is that "you get your money's worth" of food. You spend less than five dollars for a burrito that would usually cost you fifteen bucks. It is definitely a place to try if you haven't yet. The wait for food is super short, and it doesn't take long to get to the front of the line, even during lunch hour.
