The Sooner Athletic Conference has announced that Northwestern Oklahoma State's Kati Jo Gabaldon and Lubbock Christian University's Marissa Gonzalez have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week for March 17-23. Gonzalez has also been tabbed the NAIA Region VI Pitcher of the Week.
Gabaldon, a junior center fielder from Belen, NM, batted .714 for the week (5-7) with a triple, home run and seven RBI. She scored four times and carried a slugging percentage of 1.286 in two Lady Ranger wins.
Gonzalez, a senior from Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif., tossed her third no-hitter of the season - a perfect game against Dordt College, and also hung a loss on top-ranked California Baptist. She was 5-0 on the week with a 0.84 earned run average and 54 strikeouts in 25 innings. The honor is the fourth this season for Gonzalez in the SAC and it is the second time she has claimed the regional honor.
The Lady Chaps, ranked #3 nationally this week, are back on the road this weekend for three tough outings in Sooner Athletic Conference play. LCU travels to face Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, they are at Rogers State on Friday and finish the road trip with games at Southern Nazarene on Saturday. The squad's next home outing at PlainsCapital Park will be April 5th when they play host to Northwestern Oklahoma State.
