Sit Back, Relax!

Silence can be golden but raucous laughter can be gold inlaid platinum lying on a pillow like a mint. Often it seems there is never enough of either. Time should be taken to relax and unwind either alone or in a group of people you care about. Be it family game night or a friend’s game night. It could be taking time to cook together and the possibility of the food never leaving the kitchen as you enjoy each other and snack while you cook. A simple good movie night at times can’t be beat.

Movie night is one of the better ways to relax and enjoy the company of friends.

One of my personal favorites is a movie night.  It gives you an escape while surrounded by friends and family as long as it’s done right.  First there is no diet soda allowed … it’s a cardinal sin of movies either at home or in the theatre.   Just say “no,” Nancy Reagan will be so proud of you.  Secondly, there should only be three primary selections of candy:  Kit Kats, Goobers, and Whoppers.  These are all that are needed, with the optional and occasional gummy worm.   Some form of popcorn is also essential.  It should be noted that “diet” popcorn is certainly a sin as well.  A popcorn mix is often the way to go.  My personal choice is one that’s two parts extra butter popcorn mixed with one part candy corn, one part chocolate chips, and one part butterscotch chips.  As for real food there’s only two true options.  Hamburgers and pizza … no vegetables allowed to be touching each other.  Except, of course, for the french fries and mozzarella sticks - yes they are a vegetable.

Snacks are ready for viewing but now it must be decided what to view?  A tear jerking movie where a single person happens to die ever so slowly might be appropriate.  An explosion fest of car chases, shoot outs and spotless one liners that shall live forever while the movie fades, could be your best bet.  Romantic comedy could be the correct call for the evening or even just a regular comedy with side splitting moments.  Moments that, while with a group, could even lead to moments of laughter that leaves everyone asking, “What was so funny?”  Horror movies are always an option for those so bold or a musical for those who feel inclined.  I watch them all, though I do linger most often with the things that go bump in the night.

School is back in session and we are all busier than in the summer months.  Simply find one night a week and take some time to make an effort to sit back and relax.  Watch a movie and pass the popcorn as it’s not a movie night without friends.
