LUBBOCK, Texas (April 16, 2015) – The Lady Chaps continued their power surge in Game 2 of the doubleheader after Katlin Reed hit her second home run of the day in a 6-run inning to complete the season sweep (4-0) over Eastern New Mexico with a 9-2 win.
Eastern New Mexico struck first in Game 2 by scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Chaps answered with a solo home run from Sammie Murrietta in the bottom of the frame, proving to be the theme of the day for the Lady Greyhounds. Sydney Beuthien’s sac fly followed by a throwing error from ENMU right fielder was able to plate an additional run and give Lubbock Christian a 3-1 lead. After Morgan Green’s RBI single in the 6th inning cut the deficit to one run, Katlin Reed responded with a two-run blast, opening the flood gates for LCU’s offense. The Lady Chaps poured it on with six straight hits (all with two outs) en route to a 6-run inning, sealing the season sweep over Eastern New Mexico University.
Sammie Murrietta hit her 4th home run of the year and finished the game 3-4 with 2 RBI. Courtney McGee and Faith Koria each had two hits and a pair of runs, while McGee allowed just five hits on the mound. LCU had five home runs in the doubleheader and improved to 4-0 against ENMU and 32-11 on the season. The Lady Chaps will have the weekend off and close out their non-conference schedule on Tuesday against University of Southwest at PlainsCapital Park.
