(LUBBOCK) Every October, Lubbock Christian University puts on an event mainly called Trunk or Treat for children in elementary schools around Lubbock. The Student Athletic Advisory Committee that consists of one team member from each sport come together to decide what will partake in the Trunk or Treat. This year the committee had every sport program and social club come up with something that young children could do with each of the programs.
Bailey Rowley, who is the Vice President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee shared her thoughts on the importance of Trunk or Treat. “This was my third year of doing Trunk or Treat and every year, this event gets bigger and bigger and I enjoy seeing the faces on the kids when they get to hang out with the basketball teams or play a mini game with the soccer boys.” A mother by the name of Camille Sanchez took her son for the second year gave her thoughts on the event. “I’ve taken my son and his two friends here the past two years now and they enjoy just as much as Halloween night. They always go around and do the mini events with each team and then after, go and see their role models Jay and Brennan (Jay Workman and Brennan Fowler). They love seeing those guys and tell me that they want to be just like them when they grow up.” In a world today where athletes have such an impact on young people, it’s great to see that impact from Lubbock Christian Athletes.
Looking forward, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee looks to expand on the event in the future years with additions to a larger venue, a bigger impact from students that aren’t in organizations and possibly the thought of combining the trunk or treat with the organizations at Texas Tech University. Only time will tell with the event, and further dates for next year will be set in the Spring Semester of 2019.
